April 2018 Newsletter - I for India

We hope you are all enjoying the much-awaited Spring in the UK and the Easter half-term holidays. It was great to see so many of you at the IPL Flash dance at Tower of London over the weekend !

This newsletter is a quick cover drive of the day’s excitement and an appeal for our upcoming events….Howzat ?

1.IPL FLASH DANCE (Saturday 7th April 2018 @Tower of London) :

Encouraged by patron feedback and our own strategic thinking on way forward, we have realigned our boundary and added Sport as a key additional theme going forward…and what better than cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) fever to kick off this innings….

As a tribute to a decade of IPL which commenced in 2008 and the start of its 11th year, I for India hosted a series of dance performances by ardent fans and supporters of the 8 playing teams. Our own googly to make this day even more memorable was securing the Tower of London for this act, arguably London’s most iconic venue and backdrop !

Since we announced the event and invited responses via social media, email etc. the registrations poured in and the 8 teams of dancers and cheerleaders filled up in no time ! While the teams started interacting and getting the act together, the I for India team were at work in the background on arrangements and logistics for the event, including custom made T-shirts for every performing team.

Our first blessing for the D-day was clear weather with even some nice sunny spells ! As we got closer to Saturday noon, the I for India community descended on the Tower of London venue like a rainbow along 8 different shades and some really good cheer and vibes and caught the attention of everyone. We kicked off the performances as planned just after 12:30 in the backdrop of the Tower of London, with a doosra performance against the stunning Tower Bridge backdrop along the banks of the Thames.

The event came to a close as planned around 3:00 pm, with teams cheering and wishing each other luck at the IPL tournament. The sportsmanship and camaraderie of the crowd was evident from the loud cheering and encouragement for every act from all teams. The event was covered by professional videographers (Lav-Media) and photographers (Flashon Photos), as well as TV crew from NDTV.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to each and every attendee be it choreographers, dancers, cheer leaders, families and children – without whom this event would not have been such a stupendous turnout and success - thank you all once again !! We also place on record our thanks and gratitude to our event sponsors HDFC Limited and DNS Accountants, and the Tower of London authorities without whom this event would not have been possible !

We have been swept, stumped, and hooked by the several positive comments and feedback from our attendees, a hundred dancers and an overall crowd of over 300, that this event had surpassed their expectations on level of impact, organisation and the sheer fun and family entertainment it provided on such a purposeful day out in London !

To reminisce the fun of the day or for those who could not attend, you can access the pictures and videos of the day below :

We are very humbled that our dear patrons made this event a sixer on the first ball and hopeful that this would set the ball rolling for more sport initiatives…please see our heads up on I FOR INDIA CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY in this newsletter.

2.I FOR INDIA CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY

As a follow-on to the highly successful and exciting IPL flashdance, we have drawn initial plans to commence an I for INDIA Championship / Trophy match with participants from 8 teams and conduct a day of cricket tournaments, leading up to the winner of the I FOR INDIA CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY.

This is at the core of our organisation’s vision to bring together Indians in the UK and a great way to achieve it through sport and cricket ! We are looking to host 8 regional teams (e.g. Reading, Newbury, Slough, Harrow, Sutton etc.) in a day-long clash to the finals and the date we have pencilled in is Sunday, 15th July 2018.

So start gathering the best talents in your area to pull together your dream team, think of a catchy name and standby for when registrations open !!! – watch this space very closely and look out for our comms on Facebook or following newsletters as team registrations will be on a first come basis !!

3. CELEBRITY MUSICAL EVENT WITH A DIFFERENCE : 17 JUNE 2018 @ READING !

Earlier this year we heard from many of you patrons as input to our strategic planning on the way forward. We believe in listening to our patrons and executing swiftly too and some of you have already experienced the changes and new additions !

We identified Sports and Physical activity as a key pillar and have begun efforts in this direction as covered earlier in this newsletter. At the same time, we are also revamping our entertainment events and driving more variety - for example more celebrity led events as with Ajesh Ashok earlier this year.

To deliver on our vision we set ourselves an ambitious target to bring a refreshingly new and exciting event with rich content at affordable prices… and think we have nailed it …are you READY ??!!

I for India are extremely pleased to present Shri. RAJHESH VAIDHYA - a very versatile Veena maestro and celebrity artiste in his own right who needs no introduction !!! He would perform an electrifying instrumental fusion with his very capable team (Sai Hariram on Ghatam and Chandrajith Durairaj on Tabla).

We have also secured a very central and historic venue to add more grace to this event - Reading Concert Hall. Located within the Town Hall complex, the Concert Hall is one of the finest of its type in Britain. Originally built in 1882, the Victorian venue boasts superb acoustics and has hosted a variety of programs from classical music, organ recitals, blues, jazz, folk, pop & rock, stand-up comedy, etc.

Surely all this is so much music to your ears and you can’t wait….right ?? The good news is our booking plans have opened with our ever popular Early Bird offers from £10.
