We are pleased to present to you the artist - Dushyanth Sridhar
Dushyanth Sridhar, in a white vēṣṭi and aṅgavastram, with a nāmam on his forehead, discoursing on ancient scriptures, has captured the minds of the spiritually inclined and connects to the young. Upanyāsams (discourses) are no longer the forte of the old, as this young upanyāsakar (speaker), who is on an epic journey, has been making waves. He is a phenomenon, no doubt, and has broken several stereotypes when it comes to harikathā. He can blow your mind with his flawless English, popular lingo and catchphrases, and is arguably the wittiest of storytellers.
He has delivered over 3,500 discourses across 25 countries. His discourses on topics related to sanātana dharma enjoy a wide spectrum of audience on several television and digital channels. His views on issues related to sanātana dharma are eagerly awaited in leading news channels. He is a modern-day messenger of peace and love whose followers not only run into millions but are increasing with time. His initiative, titled ‘abhinava-e-pāṭhaśālā’ taught vedic content (during the COVID pandemic) to over 7,000 śiṣyas worldwide, sans discrimination.
He has conceptualised and produced classical dance productions like ‘Agre Paśyāmi’ (a colourful, dynamic, devotional spectacle that was a fine blend of verse and visuals), ‘Rāmāyaṇa Sudhā’ (a production that lends itself to creativity, which was executed competently), ‘Śrīnivāsam Prapadye’ (a beautiful story that drew the audience into its core) and ‘Araṅganin Pādaiyyil’ (a novel concept). He has acted as the protagonist in the maṇipravāla movie ‘Vedānta Deśika’ (2018), and has directed the award-winning Sanskrit movie ‘Śākuntalaṃ’ (2023).
He has authored the ‘Rāmāyaṇam (Vol. 1)’, a ‘national bestseller’, for HarperCollins Publishers India (2024), and has authored a brilliant coffee table book titled ‘Vedānta Deśika – the peerless poet preceptor’ for the JSJS trust (2018). His narration in a lucid flow and his display of acumen throughout the book earned the appreciation of literary aficionados.
In the last decade, he has organised heritage tours to 200 temples with over 3,500 yātrīs. He manages Deśika Dayā, a charitable trust that has carried out extensive cultural and spiritual activities (> ₹9 million) and which have attracted enthusiastic participation from young and old alike. He is a recipient of numerous titles and awards such as Pravacana Vācaspati, Sarvakalā Cūḍāmaṇi, Harikathā Bhāratī, Rāma Bhakti Prachāramaṇi and Śrī Chandraśekharendra Sarasvatī National Eminence Award.
He has learnt Śrī Bhāṣyam, Gītā Bhāṣyam, Rahasya Traya Sāram, Bhagavad Viṣayam, Śatadūṣaṇī and Tirunetuntāṇṭakam from ācāryas like Villivalam Śrī Nārāyaṇa Mahādeśika, Nāvalpākkam Śrī Rāmānuja Tātācār, Cetlur Śrī Śrīvatsānkācār, Nelvoy Śrī Soumyanārāyaṇācār, Villur Śrī Karuṇākarācār and Devanārvilāgam Śrī Sāranāthācār.
